Library Services



The following are all available at no extra charge unless otherwise noted.

Adult Book Discussion Group
The library sponsors a monthly book club. Registration is not required. Participate only during the months that you are able to or want to attend. Books for each month’s discussion can be picked up at the front desk. The “Book Banquet” Daytime Book & Movie Club meets on the 3rd Monday of each month. Books selected for this club have been made into a movie. The movie based on the book is shown at 1:00 p.m., followed by discussion.

Blind and Physically Handicapped Service
This free service, under the administration of the Library of Congress, is for anyone unable to read regular print because of a visual or physical disability. Books and magazines on tape and playback equipment are mailed free to library patrons. Application forms to obtain this service are available at the library.

Computers for Public Use
The library provides public computers with filtered Internet access, as well as computers with the Microsoft Office products. Children age 17 and under must have a signed parental permission form on file before using the Internet stations. The cost of copies is 10¢ a page for black and white copies and $1.00 for color copies.

Fax for Public Use
The cost to send or receive a fax is $1.00 per page. See staff member for assistance.

Homeschool Resource Center (HRC)
The library received a $55,000 grant in 2001 to establish the HRC, which is located in the library's former Study Room. Items in the HRC include curriculum materials, science equipment, math manipulatives, educational board games and kits, software, and homeschool books, magazines, and catalogs. All items in the HRC can be checked out for a period of 6 weeks.

Interlibrary Loan Service
If the library does not own an item you are looking for, we can try to obtain it for you from another library via the interlibrary loan service. You can request an item in person, via the phone, or via the Interlibrary Loan Request Form.

Meeting Room
The use of the library’s meeting room is free to non-profit groups for educational, cultural, and civic purposes, provided such meetings are open to the general public. For-profit groups may use the room upon payment of $50 per meeting. The meeting room must be booked in person and a room reservation form must be signed.

Photocopiers for Public Use
The charge for photocopies is 10¢ per page for black and white copies and $1.00 per page for color copies.

Programs for Youth and Adults
The library has programs scheduled throughout the year for youth and adults. Information on all currently scheduled programs is available at the library or on the Calendar of Events page.

Public Information Display
The library provides a public information bulletin board and brochure rack. Items posted must be of a general nature which describes an event or activity of public interest to a substantial number of persons in the community. No announcements of a strictly personal nature will be posted. No commercial advertisements may be posted.

Study Room
The library has a small study room available for use during regular business hours.

Tax Forms
The library has federal and state tax forms for public distribution. Any tax forms that the library does not have can be printed off the Internet for 10¢ a page.

Telecourses
The library has a number of McHenry County College telecourses available for viewing. These videotapes must be used in the library.

Typewriter for Public Use
The library has an electric typewriter available for public use in the Study Room.

Voter Registration
You may register to vote at the library any time during regular business hours, excluding 30 days preceding an election. You will need two forms of identification, including proof of current address.
