Grace Community is a community of Christian home school families cooperating to Educate, Stimulate, and Support one another in our calling to educate our children at home to "...bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Eph. 6:4)

As a cooperative, Grace Community meets Thursdays, September through December and February through May.

Grace Community is not affiliated with any particular denomination. Our families attend a variety of area churches.

One of the purposes of Grace Community is to provide experiences that home educated children can only experience in a co-op situation.  Students experience being part of an academically oriented class in a classroom situation with a teacher other than their parent; they have a ready audience for their academic achievements; and practice group cooperation and appropriate competitive skills.

Homeschoolers attend classes on Thursdays during regular school hours (8:30am to 3:15pm) and receive lessons in the various areas of the Montessori Cosmic Curriculum, with an emphasis on Math and Science. Additionally, there are two half-days, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12:00 to 3:15, to follow up on lessons and assignments. In every case, students are dropped off and classes are guided by trained and certified Montessori Elementary Teachers. Parents participate by receiving weekly class summaries, attending observation sessions and parent-teacher conferences, and joining us for outings and school festivals and events.

 Lakeland Tapestry Fellowship
Tapestry Fellowship is an offering of the Lakeland Church Home Educators ministry of Lakeland Church, located in Gurnee, IL.  Our focus is on providing support and fellowship as described in our mission statement:  In our effort to effectively disciple and train our children as followers of Jesus Christ, Lakeland Home Educators will seek to provide support and encouragement to home educating families, foster Christian friendships, and grow in our individual relationships with Jesus Christ, becoming like Him as we relate to our children, each other and the world.
Our co-op is based first on providing required class activities and discussions based on Tapestry of Grace curriculum and secondly providing additional accountability and fellowship through other optional courses such as Latin, Spanish, PE, science, art, music, and writing.  We meet on Wednesdays.  We have classes for grades K-12, with nursery and preschool for younger siblings.
In the morning, all levels use Tapestry of Grace curriculum and "living" books as students process the material and shape their biblical worldviews.  The primary vehicle for Tapestry group learning in grades K-6 is hands-on activities, with supporting discussion; parents still function as their children's primary teachers and mentors following the curriculum at home the rest of the week.  Grades 7-12 Tapestry students participate in group facilitator-led discussions which enrich their ability to process and understand the reading and questions the students have previously done at home.  We also plan field trips and two yearly large group family Celebrations.  Learn more about Tapestry of Grace curriculum at
Note that due to space constraints, priority is given to those who attend Lakeland Church and others who indicate interest early.  Contact Kate at for additional information.
