DIRECTOR’S REPORT

October 2013

  1. Banned Books Display:

Kudos to everyone involved in working on the fabulous display for Banned Books Week in September (Pam, Melanie, and Heather).  I have never seen a display gather so much attention.  Some patrons really were surpised that people tried to get the books on display banned from library shelves.  And some patrons didn’t bother to read the information by the display.  We had one patron who thought WE were trying to ban those books for a week.

  1. Pinterest account:

The library has a Facebook and Twitter account (which I maintain) and soon will have a presence on Pinterest.  According to Wikipedia, “Pinterest is a pinboard-style photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, and hobbies.”  Julie Frasch has taken on the project of creating and maintaining the library’s Pinterest account.  Once Julie deems it ready for public viewing, we’ll post the Pinterest logo on our home page, near the Facebook and Twitter links.  And then I’ll tweet and post on Facebook that people can now follow us on Pinterest.  J

  1. Fannie May fundraiser:

The Friends of the Library will once again be sponsoring a Fannie May chocolate bar fundraiser, just in time for Halloween, the November book sale, and the holidays.  Bars will sell for $1 at the Checkout Desk, with the Friends making a 50 cent profit on each bar.  Flavors include plain milk chocolate and milk chocolate with crisped rice, roasted almonds, peanut butter, or caramel.  There is also a new dark chocolate bar with mint cookies!  Stock up on treats for family and friends.
