Johnsburg Public Library

 September 13, 2016

 

                            

Call to Order

Meeting was called to order by President M. Diedrich at 7:00 P.M.  Trustees present:  M. Diedrich, R. Barnes, K. Gustafson, B. Harmel, K. Hughes, P. Shearer and J. Stockwell.  Director M. Zawacki was present.  Also, Tim Low, the library’s insurance representative from Frank Low Insurance Agency came to report the library’s present insurance coverage (under New Business).

 

Approval of Minutes

Motion was made by K Hughes and seconded by J. Stockwell to approve the minutes of the August 16, 2016 board meeting.

Ayes:  M. Diedrich, R. Barnes, B. Harmel, K. Hughes, P. Shearer and J. Stockwell.

Abstain:  K. Gustafson

Motion passed.

 

Approval of Bills

Motion was made by B. Harmel and seconded by P. Shearer to approve the payment of bills in the amount of $45,577.34.

Ayes: M. Diedrich, R. Barnes, K. Gustafson, B. Harmel, K. Hughes, P. Shearer and J. Stockwell.

Motion passed.

 

Treasurer’s Financial Report

Trustees reviewed the FY Year 2016-2017 August 31, 2016 financial report.

Correspondence

Director, M. Zawacki recently received the monthly IT report.

 

Director, M. Zawacki shared printed copies of the library garden post on the Chicago Tribune website chicagotribune.com/tomatoes in which Chicago Tribune News Columnist John Kass wrote about people submitting photos of their tomatoes.

 

Trustees reviewed a RAILS letter regarding grant funding and Director, M. Zawacki’s follow-up letter.  RAILS (Reaching Across Illinois Library System) will award partial funding for a RAIL LLSAP Membership Grant, pending the receipt of additional library information. Director M. Zawacki wrote that LeeJay Stewart, our IT service person, reported that the main justification for a new server and software is related to the age of our current server (2012) and operating system (Windows 2008). Also, the library’s ILL computer will be 3 years old when we convert our system in 2017 and it is used 100% of the time for PrairieCat/Sierra activities. Director M. Zawacki states that each unfunded equipment item for the IT contractor should be reduced $250.

 

Trustees reviewed several complimentary and always appreciated patron comments.

New Business

Tim Low presented in detail his report of coverage and premiums his agency writes for the library. There is an $18.00 increase in annual premiums charged (including property, liability, workers compensation, crime and terrorism).

 

Motion was made by J. Stockwell and seconded by K. Hughes to approve Ordinance No 2016-9-1 (FY2017 Ordinance Levying Taxes).

Ayes:  M. Diedrich, R. Barnes, K. Gustafson, B. Harmel, K. Hughes, P. Shearer and J. Stockwell.

Motion passed.

 

Motion was made by J. Stockwell and seconded by B. Harmel to approve Certificate of Compliance with The Truth in Taxation Law.

Director’s Report

 

1.  

Summer Reading Program Statistics:

167 children completed the requirements totaling 363 reading log entries. 19 teens completed the YA reading program and submitted 60 entries. 22 adults completed the program requirements and 61 reading logs were submitted. 80 entries were submitted for our “Blind Date with a Gold Medal Book” program for adults.

 

2.  

Illinois Library Association conference:

The library will be closed all day on Tuesday, October 18 so that 7 staff employees can attend the annual state library association conference.

 

A new newsletter company printed and mailed Johnsburg Library’s Autumn 2016 The Bookmark.

Trustee B. Harmel asked about the library continuing to participate in the McHenry County ecological conference she attended last year.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT

September 2016

 

  1. Summer Reading Program Statistics:

There were 167 children who completed the requirements of the program and they submitted a total of 363 reading log entries.  There were 19 teens who completed their YA reading program and they submitted 60 entries.  As for the adult program, 22 completed the program requirements and a total of 61 reading logs were submitted.  A total of 80 entries were submitted for our “Blind Date with a Gold Medal Book” program for adults.

 

  1. Illinois Library Association conference:

The library will be closed all day on Tuesday, Oct. 18 so that 7 staff members can attend the annual state library association conference.
