DIRECTOR’S REPORT

March 2015

  1. Staff Inservice:

Johnsburg Police Chief Von Allmen provided valuable “active shooter” and safety information at our Feb. 27 staff meeting.  As a result of discussion following the presentation, we are now planning on having the police department do CPR & AED training for staff sometime in May.

  1. “Value Added Services” Update:

We are currently all set up for selling books of Forever stamps (20 for $9.80).  We have a large decal on our front door from the post office notifying the public we are now a stamp seller.  Pam M. is working on somehow publicizing the stamps and our other value added services at the front desk.  It will also be publicized in our fall newsletter.  After finally getting in touch with someone at Waste Management, I’ve decided to not offer garbage stickers at this time.  They require a minimum purchase of 500 and each sticker is $3.40.  I felt that was just too high a minimum requirement and was afraid we’d get stuck with a bunch of them.

  1. 1st Way Pregnancy Support Services Story Time:

I was recently contacted by a volunteer from 1st Way.  She was hoping to have someone from the library do a mom/baby story time occasionally on a Wednesday evening.  This mom/baby group meets at 1st Way every Wednesday for dinner, followed by a topic or activity.   Julie S., who will be taking over as Children’s Librarian from Paulette B., will be doing her regular library story hours on Wednesday evenings, so she was unable to do it.  Heather S. had been doing an infant/toddler library Lapsit program on Saturdays for a number of months, but no longer offers the program due to low attendance, so she was very willing to do the 1st Way program story time.
