Director's Report

Two producers from the ABC 20/20 show came to get yearbook pictures for a story they were doing on the Brian Carrick murder.  Judy and Maria were interviewed and will hopefully make the cut in the editing room.

The McHenry Public Library was closed from May 16th to June 6th due to a water main break. Due to the length of time, many of their patrons used our library.

A donation of $500.00 was given to Maria by the junior high athletic director, Robin Miller.  The donation was to show their appreciation for allowing the Lakes Region Athletic Conference to meet in our library.  Maria will use the money to purchase new sports-related material.

Congratulations to Heather for winning a set of the 25 nominated Top Ten titles from the Young Adult Library Services Association (YASLA).  Heather will incorporate the titles into the teen Summer Reading Program.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT

June 2014

  1. ABC’s 20/20 Interviews:

Two producers from the ABC show came to the library to get yearbook pictures for a story they were doing on the Brian Carrick murder.  Judy and I were interviewed and if we make the cut in the editing room are scheduled to make our big TV debut on June 6.  The producer was hoping she’d have more time, so the story made be pushed back.

  1. McHenry Library closing:

Due to a water main break, the McHenry Public Library was closed May 16-June 6.  There was water damage in the children’s area and lots of repairs that needed to be done in the parking lot area.  Due to the length of time they were closed, we had many of their patrons come to use our library.

  1. Donation:

The junior high athletic director (Robin Miller) has been scheduling their athletic conference meetings in our meeting room on a quarterly basis for a couple of years.  At their last meeting I was asked to come into the room, where they promptly presented the library with a $500 donation!  The Lakes Region Athletic Conference likes meeting here and wanted to show their appreciation with a donation.  I told them we would use the donation to purchase new sports-related material.

  1. Teens’ Top Ten Books Giveaway Winner!

The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association, recently sponsored a Teens’ Top Ten Books Giveaway.  YALSA was awarding 40 sets of all of the Top Ten nominated titles, based on a submitted application.  Congrats to Heather for her application being selected as one of the winners!  We received copies of the 25 nominated titles, which teens will then vote on for their favorites.  Heather is also incorporating the titles into the teen Summer Reading Program.
