DIRECTOR’S REPORT
December 2012

  1. Library 30th Birthday Bash Statistics:
Based on the front door count for 1:00-3:00 p.m., 199 people attended the afternoon events. We gave away 75 canvas book bags in our “Great Book Bag Giveaway” and had 64 entries for the Curious George prize basket. There were 8 cakes entered in the Edible Books competition and 105 people voted. Our 30 days of Johnsburg Trivia Contest, with answers posted each day on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, resulted in 7 correct and completed entries turned in at the end of the month, with Jackie Gifford winning the Amazon gift card. Jackie is a descendant of one of the original settlers of Johnsburg (Schmitt family), so it was appropriate that she won.

  1. High School ALPS students:
Students in the high school’s special education ALPS program (Applied Learning Programs) are now coming to use the library every couple of weeks. Heather has taken on the duty of assisting them while they are here.

  1. High School Transitions student:
After going through a couple of students the last few months who didn’t work out for various reasons, Matthew Rice has been added to the library’s payroll, effective the end of November. Matthew is from McHenry High School’s program and cleans on Monday and Thursday mornings, and is supervised by someone from the high school while he is here. He is doing a great job and supplements the other two cleanings we get from Coverall on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
