Director’s Report

1.

Impact Fees:

Trustee D. Liston and Director B. Ryan met with the Village and the School District on September 27.  All parties agreed to suspend impact fees to hopefully attract new construction. Last year the library received about $3300 in impact fees. This will be reviewed on a yearly basis.

2.

Kindergartners:

On September 28 all the kindergarten kids came for a visit and were given their first library cards.

3.

Week of Caring:

During October 21-27 Johnsburg Library along with other county libraries will be participating in a week of caring to support United Way. If patrons donate a toiletry item the library will waive half of their fines. During this time any Johnsburg library fines collected will also be donated to United Way.

      4. Continuing Education

On September 28 Director B. Ryan attended PUG (Prairiecat Users Group) Day in Moline. Without any canines in attendance there were informative sessions on improving the library catalog, updates and tips on the circulation system, programming ideas and management issues. Next year this event will be held in Rockford and Director B. Ryan is planning on using the conference as an institute day for all staff.

Director Ryan also attended the “Newbie” Director’s meeting in Cherry Valley on October 3 which gave her the opportunity to brainstorm and to share ideas with other new directors.
